Sara Mai

Copenhagen, Denmark

With a bachelor's degree in animation and a diploma in classical drawing, her work explores the juxtaposition of fluidity and rigidity, focusing on human forms and the tension between organic and geometric shapes. Inspired by surrealism and the antique, she weaves these influences into her paintings, sculptures, and poems.

Central to her practice are themes of perception and the interplay between alienation and human interaction, shaped by the vibrant pulse of city life and quiet moments of introspection on identity and context.

“My subjects are often depicted looking either up or down. A subtle gesture that, for me, captures the essence of life’s duality. It’s a moment of reflection, a space suspended between light and dark, joy and struggle, my own interpretation of yin and yang.”
